Abstract:
We propose to observe NGC 3783 with the HETGS for 175 ks, distributed over a two month interval around the planned XRISM PV observation of this source. The XRISM observation (200 ks) will characterise the various outflow components with high accuracy. The HETGS observations will effectively extend the length of the observation by more than an order of magnitude. Variability, in particular of the 1-2 keV Fe-L complex, helps to constrain the density of each component and thereby its location.

Remarks:
XRISM will observe NGC 3783 either between May 26 - Aug 14, 2023 or between Nov 26, 2023 - Feb 10, 2024. XRISM has 200 ks (spanning ~ 5 days). We would like to have the Chandra observations spread over ~60 days with the XRISM observation in that 60 days interval. The Chandra observation should be preferentially splitted into smaller chunks during that 60 day interval with no preferred duration or spacing, allowing optimal mission planning for Chandra, as long as the XRISM observation is within the window and the span is about 60 days. No real simultaneity with XRISM required. Revised/added constraint, approved by CDO: place about 95 ks within XRISM observing window.
