Abstract: The proposed Chandra ACIS observations will provide the highest resolution X-ray view of the western lobe of W50 powered by the Galactic microquasar SS 433 and recently identified by HAWC as a Galactic PeVatron accelerator. Chandra will resolve and characterize the X-ray knots and shock structures likely associated with local magnetic field enhancement and jet-ISM interaction. Our primary goals are: (1) determine the jet velocity profile through measuring the knots' proper motion, and (2) spatially resolved X-ray study to probe the morphology and spectral evolution along the jet. This investigation, uniquely suited for Chandra, will test fundamental theories for understanding the jet dynamics, knot formation, and particle acceleration processes. |
