Abstract:
Recently, a group of researchers reported the discovery of a massive cool core cluster at z=1.709. Based on Chandra data, the authors determined that the cool core is cooling catastrophically with no evidence of black hole feedback from the central galaxy. This is in contrast to what is seen in the local Universe. Here, we target another cluster that appears to host the same outstanding star-bursting properties, SpARCS J1051+58 (z=1.034), yet has never been imaged at X-ray wavelengths. We propose to obtain the first X-ray data of this cluster, characterize its intracluster gas and determine if this gas is linked to its star-bursting core. These observations will play a major role in understanding the in situ star formation in high-redshift clusters, and how intracluster stars are formed.
