Abstract:
One of the biggest challenges in modern radio astronomy is understanding what causes the Fanaroff-Riley (FR-I/II) morphological dichotomy in the powerful radio galaxy population. PKS 2250-351 (z=0.21), located within the Abell 3936 galaxy cluster, is a rare example of a hybrid morphology source (HyMoRS), with an FR-II hotspot and an FR-I jet and lobe on either side. The Chandra observations will probe, the first time, the large scale environment around a HyMoRS. Our observations will test whether the FR-I/II dichotomy is caused by interaction between the jets of PKS 2250-351 with an overdense, asymmetric environment and will thus yield crucial insights into jet launching in black holes.
