Abstract:
We propose Chandra observations to complete a mass-selected and unbiased sample of 157 galaxy clusters at low-z. The Cluster Evolution Reference Ensemble at Low-z (CEREAL) will immediately allow for a variety of studies, including cluster demographics, AGN populations, and self similarity, alongside the search for rare, extreme systems such as the Bullet and Phoenix clusters. By design, this sample would prove the perfect complement to ongoing studies of clusters at z>1 by providing an anchor for evolutionary studies, and to the eRosita All-Sky Survey, which will provide wide-field, high-S/N (>5000 counts) eRASS imaging and spectra for each of these clusters. In this proposal we propose to complete the 157-cluster sample with the observation of the 21 lowest-mass systems.
