Abstract:
We propose to observe the core of the Trifid Nebula for 175 ks with the HETGS in order to obtain as first high resolution X-ray spectrum of the central illuminating star HD 164492A (O7.5V). one of the youngest massive stars in a nearby (< 2 kpc) massive stellar cluster. We intend to measure line widths and address the fact that this young massive star is X-ray faint. We also obtain high resolution spectra of other trapezium members, HD 164492B (A2Ia) to detect possible coronal emissions wither from a HAEBE star or unseen companion, and HD 164492C/C2 (B6Ve/unknown) and verify their coronal nature.
