Abstract:
Post-starburst galaxies, the direct product of the quenching process, may hold the key to understanding the physics of quenching and the role of active galactic nuclei (AGN). We propose to observe a sample of WISE-luminous massive (M*~10^11Msun) post-starburst galaxies at z~0.7, whose spectra indicate an abrupt end to a massive starburst. We do not know if the WISE luminosity arises from an AGN, in which case our census of AGN in these galaxies is very incomplete, or from buried star formation, in which case the galaxies are not quenched. Only Chandra can definitively distinguish between these two options.
