Abstract:
The study of galaxy cluster evolution has exploded in recent years with the advent of Sunyaev Zel'dovich surveys. However, these surveys, which are redshift-independent but strongly mass dependent, are sensitive to increasingly rare clusters as a function of redshift. This may be biasing evolutionary studies which compare z>1 clusters to z~0 clusters despite the fact that these samples are not evolutionarily connected. We propose here the extension of a sample of 200 clusters spanning 9 Gyr in cosmic time that all lie along the same evolutionary track. This sample will provide new, strong constraints on the evolution of the cool core fraction, the evolution of the merger rate and relaxation time, and the evolution of AGN in clusters, along with a variety of other exciting topics.
