Abstract:
The variable radio sky is full of exotic transients, and recent sensitive radio surveys are pushing the boundaries of our knowledge by discovering new classes of sources. While hunting for quiescent black hole X-ray binaries (accreting binary systems with very little matter from a stellar-fed accretion disk falling onto a stellar-mass black hole), a Very Long Baseline Array campaign identified four flat-spectrum radio-bright Galactic candidates that (surprisingly) have no known multiwavelength counterparts. Here, we request 15ks of Chandra time on each of these four Galactic targets to obtain the deep, high angular resolution X-ray data needed to constrain the X-ray flux of each unknown source (a crucial metric needed for decoding the nature of these unknown transients).
