Abstract: After 16 years of near-monthly monitoring, Chandra has not observed the bulge of M31 since 2015. We propose a 3-year program to image M31 with the HRC-I once per year to continue monitoring campaigns such as searching for flares from the supermassive black hole in the nucleus M31*, determining turn-off times of post-nova supersoft emission, and investigate the variability of X-ray sources near [O III] nebula, possibly induced by microquasar-powered jets of the variable X-ray source. Continued 20+ year monitoring of over a hundred X-ray sources to a limiting luminosity of 2e35 ergs/s will also be performed. |
