Abstract:
Jellyfish galaxies are the spectacular outcome of intracluster medium (ICM) ram pressure stripping, providing the opportunity to study the gas removal processes on galaxy evolution. For the first time, a magnetized ICM drape has been observed enveloping the jellyfish galaxy JO206 in the galaxy cluster IIZw108. The magnetic sheath can play a crucial role in preserving the cold gas in the tail from the ICM heating. However, the current X-ray observation does not allow to study of the thermal properties of the drape. The Chandra data requested here aim to probe the extended X-ray emission of JO206. The observations proposed will provide a crucial test for the scenario of draping, condensation, and cooling of hot gas surrounding cold clouds that is fundamental in many astrophysical phenomena.
