Abstract: The X-ray spectral analysis of new Compton thick (CT-) active galactic nuclei (AGN) represents a fundamental step to understand the physics of the obscuring material surrounding accreting super-massive black holes. However, at the present day, CT-AGN remain extremely hard to detect. Implementing previously successful selection criteria, we propose to target 6 low-redshift candidate CT-AGN from the Swift-BAT 150-month catalog with 10 ks Chandra observations each to confirm their CT nature. Moreover, we aim to discover new AGN with extended emission out to kpc scales, which has been recently detected in a small sample of CT-AGN. This analysis will help determine the true intrinsic fraction of CT-AGN in the local universe and contribute to the knowledge of AGN feedback on their host galaxy. |
