Abstract:
We propose a snapshot survey of two remarkable quasar classes to understand better the relationship between X-ray and optical/UV emission as well as the nature of the inner accretion disk. First, we target quasars with very large C IV emission-line EW which are critical to test the relationship between X-ray emission strength and C IV EW yet are poorly sampled in current analyses. These targets will provide insights into the connection between X-ray emission strength, the ionizing continuum, and C IV EW in quasars. Second, we target super-Eddington accreting AGN which may preferentially exhibit extreme X-ray variability. Snapshot observations will provide tighter constraints on the extreme variability occurrence rate and will be sensitive enough to test models for this behavior.
