Abstract:
Rapidly accreting black holes are predicted to drive winds that clear host gas and shut off star formation during quasar feedback phases. These complex multiphase outflows can drive material at high velocities even on kpc-scales. We propose Chandra ACIS-S observations to perform a complete study of the X-ray properties of the most luminous obscured quasars at z~2-3 that exhibit galactic-scale V~4000-8000km/s outflows. When combined with archival Chandra data, these observations will provide a robust assessment of the impact of feedback winds on X-ray emission at the epoch of peak galaxy formation.
